American Indian and Alaska Native Heritage Month begins (USA)
Native American Heritage Month, beginning in 1990, is a time to celebrate the rich and diverse culture, tradition and history of the Native people. It aims to educate the wider public on Native Tribes and the challenges their people have faced in history, and present day. The day honours and celebrates the native people of the American Indian and Alaskan lands by holding special events in businesses, schools and outreach programs where stories and experiences of the native people are shared.
