Capital City Day (Kazakhstan)

Capital City Day in Kazakhstan, also known as the ‘Day of Nur-Sultan’, is a public holiday commemorating the relocation of the capital from Almaty to Astana. This day also serves as a celebration of the birthday of Kazakhstan’s first president, Nursultan Nazarbayev, who held office from 1990 to 2019. In March 2019, Astana was officially renamed Nur-Sultan in honor of the former president, further adding significance to the occasion.
