Day of the Dead begins (Mexico)
Day of the Dead, or Dia de los Muertos is a Mexican holiday where individuals celebrate and pay respect to family and friends who have passed away. On the day of celebration, home altars usually place offerings (‘ofrendas’) of favourite food and beverages in honour of loved ones, as well as photos and memorabilia. The graves of the deceased are decorated with Mexican Marigold flowers, which are thought to attract souls to these offerings to guide the souls back to their family homes. Observances of the holiday are seen around the world, such as in the United States, Asia and Oceania and Europe
