Dragon Boat Festival begins

Also called Tuen Ng, this festival’s origins are ancient and unknown, but the best-known origin story is that it commemorates the tragic death Qu Yuan (c. 340–278 BC), a Chinese poet and political leader, through dragon boat racing, rituals and festivities. It is a public holiday in China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan.
