Eid al-Adha begins

Aka the Greater Festival and meaning ‘Festival of Sacrifice’, this is the most significant Muslim holy day of the year and a reminder to trust in Allah, even when we don’t understand His ways. The day marks the end of the Hajj pilgrimage and commemorates the prophet Ibrāhīm, his wife Hājar and son Ishmael’s trust in Allah, who had ordered Ibrāhīm to sacrifice his wife and son, as recounted in the Quran. Hājar and Ishmael were miraculously saved from death. Eid Al-Adha is commemorated with special prayer services, exchange of gifts, feasts and parties. Many Muslims do not work on this day.
