George Town World Heritage City Day (Malaysia)

George Town World Heritage City Day is a regional public holiday in Malaysia that commemorates the anniversary of George Town being recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2008. Named after King George III of England, George Town was the first British settlement in Southeast Asia. UNESCO describes George Town and Melaka, both listed as World Heritage Sites, as having “a unique architectural and cultural townscape without parallel anywhere in Southeast Asia.” On this day, the communities of Melaka and George Town join together in celebration.
