International Day of Zero Tolerance to Female Genital Mutilation
International Day of Zero Tolerance to Female Genital Mutilation was Created by the UN in 2012, this day calls on the global community to be aware of, and act against, the practice of female genital mutilation. This applies to all procedures that violate girls’ and women’s inalienable human rights by altering or injuring female genitalia for non-medical purposes. The issue is concentrated primarily in 30 countries in Africa, the Middle East and Asia and in some immigrant communities.
