Lady of Aparecida

Our Lady of Aparecida is a cultural holiday celebrated in Brazil on October 12th. It is a major religious observance for Catholics, who often make a journey to the Basilica of Our Lady of Aparecida on this day. The holiday honors Brazil’s patron saint, the Virgin Mary Aparecida, and celebrates the story of her apparition and miracles. The statue of Our Lady of Aparecida was found by fishermen in the Paraiba River and is now housed in the world’s second-largest basilica. The feast day of Our Lady of Aparecida has been a national holiday in Brazil since 1980.
