Obon Festival
Obon Festival, also known as Bon Festival, is a Japanese holiday that honors deceased ancestors. It is believed that their spirits return to visit their relatives, and families have reunions and visit the graves of their loved ones. The festival is observed from the 13th to the 15th day of the 7th month, which is usually in August but can also be in July depending on the region. During this time, paper lanterns are hung to guide the spirits, and Obon dances (bon odori) are performed. It is a time to pay respect to ancestors and loved ones who have passed away, and to celebrate their lives with the people you love. Although it may sound somber, Obon is actually a happy and joyous festival filled with dancing, street food, and entertainment.
