Stars Festival – Tanabata (Japan)

This traditional summer festival is celebrated across Japan, sometimes on different dates in different parts of the country. It is not a public holiday. The festival takes place in public streets and malls. It celebrates the meeting of the deities Orihime and HIkoboshi, represented by the stars Vega and Altair. Legend says that the lovers are separated by the Milky Way and are allowed to meet once a year on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month of the lunisolar calendar.
