World Habitat Day
World Habitat Day is celebrated annually on the first Monday of October, and this year it falls on October 6th. This day is recognized by the United Nations to reflect on the state of human settlements and people’s right to adequate shelter. The day is celebrated in many countries around the world, and various activities are organized to examine the problems of rapid urbanization and its impact on the environment and human poverty. The annual themes for World Habitat Day have been diverse and have included “Shelter for the Homeless”, “Our Neighbourhood”, “Safer Cities,” “Women in Urban Government,” Cities without Slums” and “Water and Sanitation for Cities”.
