World Humanitarian Day

World Humanitarian Day began as a remembrance of the bomb attack in Baghdad in 2003 where 22 people were killed. In 2009 the United Nations General Assembly declared the day as an observance to remember humanitarian workers who are killed or injured doing their jobs. It is also an opportunity to honour and support humanitarian workers who continue to support those in need. Each year, a theme is adopted, in 2021 the theme was ‘the human cost of the climate crises.’
