World Teachers’ Day
World Teachers’ Day is celebrated annually on October 5th to honor and appreciate teachers worldwide. Established in 1994, it commemorates the signing of the “ILO/UNESCO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers,” which addresses the status and situations of teachers around the world. To celebrate this day, UNESCO and Education International mount a campaign each year to help give the world a better understanding of teachers and the role they play in the development of students and society. More than 100 countries commemorate World Teachers’ Day, and each holds various activities and events to celebrate the cultural significance of this holiday.
