Youth Day Zambia is a national annual public holiday in Zambia, dedicated to the youth of the country. The day marks the 1962 date during Zambia’s fight for independence from Britain when a youth riot in Chimwemwe in the streets was met with police firing live ammunition, killing some of the young protesters. Zambia gained independence in 1964, and Youth Day was made a public holiday in 1966.
