International Day of Non Violence

International Day of Non Violence, established by the United Nations, is the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi and an occasion to promote public awareness and education about non-violent resolutions to conflict. Mahamat Gandhi was the leader of the Indian independence movement and pioneer of philosophy and strategy in violent resistance. He believed that Indians must not use violence or hatred in their fight for freedom from colonialism. The day is aimed at the promotion of education and public awareness in dismantling violent societies, to secure a culture of peace, tolerance and understanding.
