National Coming Out Day (USA)
National Coming Out Day raises awareness and supports lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer people to embrace their individual identity. The day was first celebrated in the United State in 1988, grounded in gay and feminist liberation. Today, the date encompases all members of the queer community and fosters activism and support from members and allies. The foundational belief is that homophobia thrives in environments of silence and ignorance. Expressing support to loved ones, friends, family and colleagues is encouraged.
