Martyrdom of Imam Ali (Iran)
Martyrdom of Imam Ali is a public holiday in Iran that falls on 21 Ramadan and commemorates the Martyrdom of Ali ibn Abu Talib, son-in-law of the Prophet Muhammad and considered by Shia Muslims to be the first Imam. Ali ruled the Rashidun Empire from 656 to 661 when he was killed by poison-coated sword and died on 21 Ramadan 40 AH in the Islamic calendar.
